This book is everything a person looks for. It'll keep you on the edge and make you want to scream, every once in a while. The descriptions are so accurate that long after you're done with the book, you'll remember the scenes as if you watched a movie.
This book's summary intrigued me so I picked this up. It was definitely different from the books I usually read and I'm glad I picked this up because it inspired me to read more. A journey of struggle and so many other factors, the very things that make us human. I went into this thinking this was just gonna be a cutesy, feel-good book. It was so much more than that.
What impresses me most about the book, how the author balanced the factors of life together. Bravery, kindness, empathy, grace, Everything is interrelated. This is another important highlight of this book. Probably the one of the most important highlight.
If there's going to be a book that rips your heart open every few pages, it's this one. Jacob and Joseph are both two characters that are not perfect, yet it's so easy for me to root for them. we see them try to grapple with their grief and their difficult situations, making decisions in order to survive.
I absolutely loved Joseph's character for a reason. He never argued, for he considered misfortune far greater than his own. His attitude changed totally when they relocated to the escarpment. One could hardly explain the gratitude expressed by the lepers on their replenishment.
I feel like this is the type that every reader should just try. These books are short but pack a huge punch of uplifting meaningfulness. They are about companionship, the meaning of life, universally shared emotions, and they leave you feeling like life is much simpler than we make it. I was afraid the author might throw a tragic gut wrench into the story, and I was so relieved when instead I was crying at the end.
I absolutely loved the writing style of this book. Every single word was placed perfectly and the book just flowed. There were so many quotes in this book that really opened my eyes and found their way onto my favorite quotes shelf.
The characters were well-written and the relationships were portrayed well. I loved all the characters across all timelines, however I admire how the author had dug deeper into the histories and made the plot of this book more solid. I just loved this book, and I think stories like this are so important for people to consume. It is a futuristic world that feels peaceful to be in, and I loved that.
