A Time of Reckoning By Michelle Simpson

I haven't been reading books like this for long, but I am so glad this was one of the ones I read. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I couldn't put it down at all. I began to cry towards the end of the book. After I read the first chapter, I had a feeling I would love this book.. I just didn't realize how much. I'd rate it 10 stars if I could. I binged it in one day and it was the best decision I've ever made. I'm filled with so much joy because of Una who is a pretty and powerful woman and also, my favourite character in this book. My brain can't find the vocabulary to describe the way this book makes me feel. This book is so unique and definitely not your typical romance, which is what I love about it. I laughed, I cried, and I grieved right along with Devin. The concept of the book is interesting & engaging. The way the author created the plots of the story is just amazing. The story and the narration is really fast paced & the storytelling style is really amazing It mixes the classic love and courage taking apart class difference for the ultimate of needs, love in a land where Christianity reigned, respected by some but scoffed at by the majority.

I think my favourite part about this book was when Devin had taken her mother's hands into her own and squeezed, telling her yes and to not worry, that all would be well. When Maeve had finally nodded, her head dropping low enough that Devin looked upon the part in her red hair.

Talking about Maeve, she knew the joy and the freedom of a woman who could forget her own path. She never felt the loneliness her mother feared for her. The world around her was calling to her with its secrets and she couldn't ignore that. And that it was Beltane only fueled her commitment to her feminine power.

Anyway ,To me, Una is the most relatable character compared to the other characters. She's the most kind, powerful and gentle. I found a lot of myself reflected in her, I really love that her created a character that relates to not feeling adequate enough and feeling like her personal accomplishments are subpar at best. Her character growth and development was done with so much grace. I just love her character (if you haven't realized already).

This book was AMAZING. There's deep history and so much emotion from it's brutal, sad and omg, I was so angry at times! Even though they already have a bond that never truly broke, I love how they both put in the efforts.

I liked the plot enough to be curious to pick up book 2. I'm excited to read the sequel.
